Helping You Achieve Clear Vision

If you wear glasses or contact lenses, chances are you’ve considered corrective eye surgery at one time or another. There are many eye surgery techniques, but they are all designed to correct refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism and help reduce or eliminate the need for contacts or glasses.

We work closely with many ophthalmological clinics in Toronto that performs various corrective eye surgeries. We have co-managed these surgeries with this clinic for several years, and we have had hundreds of patients undergo corrective surgery successfully.

Contact us today to schedule your consultation and find out if you’re a candidate for laser eye surgery like LASIK, PRK, and more.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

We provide laser eye surgery consultations to determine if laser eye surgery will work for you. During these consultations, we explain—in detail—what’s involved, your available options, and what to expect before, after, and during surgery.

All your follow-up appointments will be with us. We are responsible for monitoring your eye health and addressing any complications.

Types of Vision Correction Surgeries

There are several types of vision correction surgeries available. We are happy to offer refractive surgery evaluations and consultations for LASIK, PRK, and refractive lens exchange.

The best way for us to determine which vision correction surgery is right for you is through a comprehensive eye exam and after a discussion about your personal history, needs, and expectations.

Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism using an excimer laser.

The LASIK surgery uses the excimer laser to create a thin flap in the cornea that is lifted up so that the corneal tissue underneath can be reshaped. The flap is then placed back, and the eye is left to heal.

LASIK surgery offers advantages over other laser surgeries, like less postoperative discomfort, faster healing time, and less chance of corneal haze. Although LASIK is generally safe, possible complications include dry eyes, glare, halos, double vision, and under or overcorrection.

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgery also involves an excimer laser to reshape the cornea, but it differs significantly from LASIK.

The cornea’s surface layer is removed using either an alcohol solution, the excimer laser, or a rotary brush, and the remaining cornea is then reshaped using the laser. Afterward, a contact lens or an eyepatch protects the cornea while it heals.

Laser eye surgery isn’t always a good choice for everyone. Refractive lens exchange (RLE) is a vision correction surgery that replaces the eye’s natural lens with an artificial lens to correct refractive errors.

RLE surgery is nearly identical to cataract surgery, except that it’s performed without cataracts. The new, artificial lens is designed as a long-term solution, but you may experience clouding vision weeks, months, or years after cataract surgery. This is called posterior capsule opacification, which occurs when the lens capsule, which holds the lens in place, thickens. A simple laser surgery called posterior capsulotomy can correct this.

Although RLE is an attractive option, it’s generally not recommended for those who are good candidates for laser eye surgery.
